for your first trip to nyc

you've asked and asked and asked for my top 5 nyc recommendations....
not an easy task-- i sort of think my entire blog is about nyc suggestions-- but many first timers need broader strokes.
how do you pick 5 nyc favorites?
not limited to season, i have assembled the top 5 things to do for a nyc novice.
read blog archives for food/further shopping suggestions.

1.
visit the empire state building right before closing time
on a clear day, you can see forever.

don't go in february. .... you'll freeze your baguettes off.

2. see a broadway show

grease, hint.. hint
or jersey boys
tale of two cities

then eat at carnegie deli for the best cheesecake and matzoh ball soup

inside the brooks atkinson theatre found here

3.
shop in soho
wander all over the cobblestone goodness and find incredible treasures

(note: bloomingdales soho DOES have yogurt on the second floor)
see first photo here

4.
ride the central park carousel
and visit alice

5.

walk or ride over the brooklyn bridge

and eat grimaldi's pizza

ahahahahaha! you're too much.
and you and i have a little bike riding-across brooklyn bridge-date when you return {if weather isn't freeeezing} because i still wanna ride bikes across!

p.s. i didn't take either of those pics. josh did. {just sayin- sometimes he hates that i get all the photo credit. although i don't mind one bit! haha.}

Awesome suggestions. Pretty much the same list I'd give, except I recommend Top of the Rock for the viewing pleasure. Not as crowded and it's awesome to have the Empire State Building in the view. But both are great.

I'm freezing my baguettes off!

Greatest movie ever. I love your blog, and NYC is my most favortiest place on earth.

I have to admit though, I think Penn Station deserves to be on that list...what a fantasticly chaotic place.

I know you posted this ages ago but I'm hoping you read all your comments. I think this is a lovely couple of things for first time New York visitors. I'm originally from NY (not the city but not upstate) but am planning on travelling back with two of my girlfriends. We'll be meeting up with my third cousin from Italy (met her through genealogy/facebook stalking for family while doing genealogy!) who has a place to stay with her Italian friends. I was wondering where your friends who visit stay and if you have any tips on hotels in the area (I'm assuming you yourself also stayed in some before you got cast in roles and were a fabulous star!). I've got my decent flight tickets, will be stalking out TKTS and plan on spending oodles of time in restaurants with my cousin. I'm crossing my fingers that my friends have generous YSA friends who live in the city but I'm definitely not relying on it. If you have any suggestions it would be much appreciated! I'll be travelling end of April-beginning of May. angelabeth(dot)cantido(at)gmail(dot)com

Some of the best site-seeing tips for New York City . You are completely right about the Empire State Building-don't go in February! The wind is amplified times 100 during that time of the year! Definitely a better visit saved for the summer months.

My mom grew up and is very good friends with the Choreographer of Jersey Boys! Still haven't seen it and am kicking myself. Although I think I will be seeing it in Vegas... darn.

I'm new to NYC and I have a cousin visiting in March. I had several of these on my list! Thanks! Have you been to the top of the Rock? I'm trying to decide between the Empire State Building and that?
