(sussy and bil's actual engagement shot)
ok lovies,
chillax. engagies aren't really THAT hard.
when in doubt, go tight headshot, and DON'T pose.
be careful to wear clothing that doesn't date the photo too much... you may think leggings and giant brain squeezers are cute now, but your kids will ridicule you to no end...
avoid wild prints and keep the neckline interesting.
wear SIMPLE makeup. no smokey eyes or crazy lipstick. less is more.
and PRACTICE your fiance's smile.... make him look in the mirror and practice his "real" smile. that sounds ridiculous, but you wouldn't believe how many guys don't know how to photograph well....
here are a few of my favorites....
the following are from sussy:

i recognize these are bridal/groomals but we're looking at poses, folks...

the rest are matt clayton:
i don't know this cat but i think he makes even the most average people look like rock stars.
be careful not to get to modely (he REALLY does make everyone people look like models)... they're great for your living room but a bit much to send out.

happy engaging!

oh phew...i'm glad our picture is in the good engagement post, not the ones to avoid post...haha. of course, with nicole as our photographer we loved all our images! :)
You don't know me, and really I don't know you but I found your blog through a friend. I have to tell you that I saw a wedding announcement last week with a picture of the bride and groom standing backwards showing their rear ends in jeans, hands in each others back pocket and NO SHIRT ON (either of them!). The picture showed from mid thigh to mid back on both of them and that was it! BLAAAAAH.
how about posting failed marriage engagement pictures and then we could analyze those photo's to see how not to pose?
Cute Kelsey! Love her and love your blog!!!
you are so good with advice!
are you still taking pictures?
A little free publicity for a friend: Katie Day takes ADORABLE pictures of couples. she will make you gush over people you've never even met before: www.katiedayphoto.com
(I'm partial because I'm on the site..haha!)
I have the pleasure of not only knowing Matt Clayton, but having had him take my picture before.
He is incredibly talented with a photographer's eye, but even more than that, he makes even the most hesitant object (um... me) feel completely at ease in front of the lens.
I love him to bits.
Hahaha! Thanks Natalie. I'm flattered...AND relieved that I made it onto the "good engagement poses" list. Thanks!
